Bighorn Golf Club

INTRODUCTION

Bighorn Golf Club is not simply the finest residential golf community in Palm Desert. It is widely regarded as one of the premier luxury golf club communities in the entire United States. Perched 1,000 feet above the valley floor in the foothills of the Santa Rosa Mountains, just three miles up Highway 74 from El Paseo, Bighorn combines an elevation and setting that no other Coachella Valley community can match with a level of amenity and service that goes far beyond golf.

Established in 1991 and spanning 1,150 acres of dramatic mountain terrain, Bighorn is home to two legendary 18-hole championship courses, a $75 million 80,000 sq ft clubhouse completed in November 2017, nine indoor and outdoor dining venues, a 13,000 sq ft European-style spa, private aviation services, chauffeured car service, and The Vault, a 24,000 sq ft one-of-a-kind automobile gallery and club within a club where approximately 90 members display and store their prized automotive collections.

Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods, Arnold Palmer, and Lee Trevino have all played at Bighorn. The community hosted the 2002 Battle at Bighorn with Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus and the LPGA World Championships from 2004 to 2007,cementing its place in the history of the sport.

Membership is available to property owners only and carries the highest median price per square foot of any golf community in the Coachella Valley. THE COURSES

Bighorn features two legendary 18-hole championship courses linked by a cart tunnel beneath Highway 74, creating a seamlessly connected golf experience across two distinctly different mountain and canyon terrains.

The Mountains Course
18 holes | Par 72 | Designed by Arthur Hills | Opened 1991

Designed by Arthur Hills and opened in 1991, the Mountains Course was the founding course of Bighorn Golf Club. A target golf experience featuring natural desert terrain, numerous dramatic elevation changes, and breathtaking views of the Santa Rosa Mountains and Coachella Valley floor. The 18th green sits at the foot of the clubhouse alongside a lake that reaches back into the fairway, framed by a waterfall, stream, and desert rock formation. Among the most visually dramatic finishing holes in Southern California.

The Canyons Course
18 holes | Par 72 | Designed by Tom Fazio | Opened 1998

Designed by Tom Fazio and opened in 1998, the Canyons Course descends into the dramatic canyon terrain on the opposite side of Highway 74 from the Mountains Course, connected by the cart tunnel. Meandering streams, California palms, canyon walls, and the best scenery the Santa Rosa Mountains can offer create a round that is as visually stunning as it is strategically demanding. Home of the Canyons Steak House overlooking the course and the valley beyond.

Both courses are private, reserved for members and their accompanied guests only. A five-star driving range, pro shop, putting greens, chipping areas, and PGA instructors are available on site. The Golf House above the Canyons Driving Range serves breakfast and lunch.

HISTORY

Bighorn Golf Club was established in 1991 on 1,150 acres of dramatic mountain terrain in the foothills of the Santa Rosa Mountains in Palm Desert, California. The founding Mountains Course was designed by Arthur Hills and opened that same year, immediately establishing Bighorn as a destination for serious golf and serious luxury.

Tom Fazio designed the Canyons Course, which opened in 1998 on the canyon side of Highway 74, connected to the Mountains Course by a cart tunnel beneath the highway. The two courses together created a 36-hole private golf experience unlike any other in Southern California.

The club gained international attention when it hosted the 2002 Battle at Bighorn, the legendary made-for-television showdown between Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus. The community then hosted the LPGA World Championships from 2004 to 2007, welcoming the world's best women's golfers to its fairways. Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, and Lee Trevino have all played at Bighorn.

In November 2017, Bighorn completed a landmark $75 million, 80,000 sq ft clubhouse, replacing the original structure with a three-story architectural masterpiece perched at 1,000 feet above the valley floor. Designed with limestone floors imported from Peru, a 16-foot cascading glass chandelier, and four 5,000 sq ft penthouses by architect Guy Dreier at the summit, the clubhouse is among the most spectacular private club facilities in the country.

The Vault, Bighorn's extraordinary 24,000 sq ft automobile gallery, was added as a club within a club where approximately 90 members purchased spaces at approximately $100,000 each to house and display their prized automotive collections. Spaces are now on a waiting list and have appreciated in value.

Bighorn is also known as one of the most philanthropic private clubs in the Coachella Valley, with a long history of charitable giving and community support.
